Weird Russian Shit

Hey y'all.

Sending a quick hello from Moscow and wanted you to know that I arrived safe and sound, although 4 hours late. My car was there waiting and this hotel is fine, even though everything smells likesmoke. I had a great day sightseeing at the Kremlin and visiting the most random musum ever (can't spell it) with another museum guy and I am exhuasted.

Random thoughts: there are lots of stray dogs in Moscow, the food really is bad, the people are rude and cranky, the vodka is plentiful and everything is super expensive, but I'm enjoying it. Looks like I'll be there another day and am hoping to visit the State Russian Museum in Red Square. Hopefully I'll get to St. Petersburg tomorrow, but that trip has not been working out so well.

Ok, all the things are in crylic so I am going to try and post this. Hope it works.

Blog Busy and Far Far Away

Dear Readers,

I am totally stressed.

I've taken photos for the 5th and the 6th, but alas, in my ongoing rushed preparations for the upcoming 3 week trip, I forgot to charge my camera battery and thus it was dead when I went to upload them today. But never fear, as I will have many many days of posts to catch up on when I return, you'll see them eventually.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I leave the country this Sunday and will be gone until September 28th on this crazy courier trip. One of the Academy's paintings is in an exhibition travelling from the Pushkin Museum in Moscow to the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain. I'll be spending 8 days in Russia, 2 days on a bus driving to Helsinki, one day on a 24 hour ferry ride in the Baltic Sea, 4 more on another bus driving from Germany to Paris, and finally Paris to Spain where I will spend a few more days installing the painting. Phew. I'm tired just typing that!

If I find cheap Internet access on the trip, I'll try and post some small updates to let you know I'm alive and well. Be sure mark your calender for October 1st for all the updates and to see my own photos of the things below.

Hugs and Kisses to all my loyal readers.

Guest Blog Entry 3

September 4th

Since I'm super busy preparing for my trip, I decided to forgo taking a photo today.

Instead, guest blogger PJ sent me the link to his set of photos from his NYC visit last week. Go take a peek here.

He did a fantastic job visiting a lot of non-tourist areas, experiencing all four of the outer boroughs and even managed to walk the entire length of Manhattan in one night.

I also thought it was totally awesome that he caught this guy riding the "sweet" bike from my post on the 27th. Check it out!

Horses. Horses. Horses.

September 3rd

Labor Day is the official last day of the Saratoga Raceway season. I stopped up with Heather and the parental units. We got a special deal including BBQ lunch, our programs and seats right on the fence.

We saw three guys wearing the same shirt as my dad. I guess that is what he gets for cheating on his "special" catalogs!

This stupid hot dog was so long I had to put the camera on a wide screen setting! Nice, Heath.

I love to watch the horses run. Too bad I wound up $15 in the hole.

And while I understand that fancy hats are very fashionable at the races, big piles of cleavage on 50+ year old women certainly are not!

Tony and Kathy's Place

September 2nd

My aunt and uncle throw a big labor day party every year. In addition to the pull of the poolside bar and Budweiser truck parked conveniently in the backyard, it is the only time I see my cousins and all the kids.

There have been some recent additions to the family. This is little Justin who just woke up from a nap.

This is Grace, who enjoyed eating rocks.
Anthony was a good little kid who pulled all his younger cousins around in the wagon and ate dinner with his little sister!

And here is little 3 year old Will. I've never met a tougher, smarter, crazier little boy! He loves being thrown head first into the pool and running full speed off the diving board. He ran around all night without shoes, never getting tired or hurting himself.

When I was trying to explain to the older kids why stars in the northern and southern hemispheres are different, (you try doing that after 15 beers using only a Folgers coffee can as a globe) Will listened and then told me repeatedly, "OK, Anna, it's my turn to talk now."

Crazy Aunt Anna was also very happy to hang out with Trevor.

And my brother was cracking himself up with his "beer goggles".

(Yes, that is a Bud Light sign hanging off the back of the house. )

Colorful Saturday

September 1st

Colorful things seen in and around Union Square!

Friday Night Lights

August 31st

See, I am getting better at nighttime photos! BUT....there is still room for improvement as these are really grainy.
